Baby A turns 1 year old on 20th July 2017. She probably doesn’t have a clue what “birthday”is all about. She doesn’t need to. For every 1 year old, I believe their first birthday party is not their. It is their parents. Here’s me talking about Baby A’s birthday party, or is it my fantasy birthday party? You will know why as you read on. Firstly, we would like to thank our dear friend Chang Ming from MyBurgerLab for providing us with the wonderful venue and food! It was a small but memorable birthday party and we thank our families and friends for being there with us at Baby A’s One Year Old Birthday Party.
Preparation before the birthday party – unicorn theme
To be honest, the cake was the inspiration for a unicorn-themed party. I booked the cake 3 months before Baby A’s birthday! I saw a baker’s post in the jobs for caring moms facebook group and immediately decided that I shall order the unicorn cake and macarons from her. Did I think of what Baby A will like for her birthday cake? Absolutely.. NOT. Well, it’s not like she is going to give me an answer if I asked her “Baby, what would you like for your birthday cake?” She can’t even eat the cake!
After the cake, we worried about the venue. We have spoken to a friend that we would like it if he could do the catering for us but we have not decided where we will host the party. After contacting him in May to get quotation for Baby A’s birthday party, we are truly blessed that he kindly offered MyBurgerLab for us to host the party! Baby A is one step closer to being an ambassador for MyBurgerLab! (kidding!)
The invitation card
We have stopped printing cards or sending physical invitation cards. Come on, we are living in the digital era so of course e-invite is the way to go. I designed the invitation card and invited families and friends using whatsapp.
The Gift Bags for Kids
Special thanks goes out to my sister in law who sponsored Baby A’s party gift bags. I love all the items that she has gotten for the gift bags! They were fun and usable items which the kids can take out and play at the party itself. We also had a tattoo-on-the-spot “booth” for the kids which they enjoyed so much, even the parents!
DIY Baby Milestone Photos
I decided to print out some photos of Baby A to make milestone photos of her from newborn to 1 year old! The result – I think I did a pretty decent job! Took me 2 hours plus to finish this whole thing! (and I forgot to take a picture of it on the birthday party day!)
The Birthday Party
We had around 30 minutes to set-up and decorate the venue. Once again, all this would not have been possible without help from our dear friends! *Thank you so much!*
Would be easier to describe the set-up with photos! Let’s start with the backdrop.
Moving on to the table. To be honest, I forgot 1 thing – the tablecloth! So on the day itself, we improvised. Used the additional organza fabric from the skirting as tablecloth. Thanks to our dear friend who made the organza skirting – it fits perfectly with the theme and made the whole decor so much more professional and pretty!
Someone took a short video of the table decor!
Its all about the food! To me, food is always the most important thing at a party. Sad to say life is such, fill up your tummy first before everything else. So let’s look at the food lined up for Baby A’s birthday party.
I chat with some of the guests and there were 2 groups of people, those who love the shepherd’s pie and those who love the pasta. I loved BOTH of them. As the guests dig in to the pasta, they continued to shave more cheese to the pasta and the presentation looks great even an hour after the party started!
We ordered egg and potato sandwich and of all the parties that catering events that I have been to, this is the best sandwich I have had so far. They were just mouth-watering-delicious. Maybe it’s also just me, because I love bread and potatoes!
And of course the crowd’s favorite tacos! Its served on the spot and you have the options of beef or chicken. I promise, the photos will make you hungry.
Last but not least, the drinks. Bottle orange juice and mineral water for our guests. Nicely done!
If you would like to engage the caterer, contact details and name card as below:
Happy Birthday to my Dearest Baby Girl
It was a great birthday party. Despite some last-minute panic (like no table cloth) and a short 30 minutes to set the place up, I think we all enjoyed ourselves very much. It would not be possible (which I stress many times) without our friends and families’ support. Here are some family photos.
Unicorn theme is complete when one of our dear friend gifted Baby A with a unicorn + tutu romper! The hat was bought separately but it was such a coincidence that it matches the outfit perfectly.
